Compost Nashville

Frequently asked

Got questions?

We've got answers. If you don't find what you need below, just reach out. We love this stuff.

Service basics

What area does Compost Nashville service?
Most of Davidson and Williamson counties, plus newly added Mt. Juliet in Wilson County. If you're nearby and don't see your address listed, just ask. We may already be servicing your block.
What types of services do you provide?
Residential curbside pickup, commercial collection (offices, restaurants, schools, etc.), event composting, and community drop-off. See the Services menu for details on each.
Do you offer one-time pickups?
Yes, through our event composting service. If you've got food waste from a one-off gathering, request an event quote.
Can I buy finished compost?
Yes. Current subscribers can order compost through the customer portal.
Do you offer tours of your composting facility?
Not currently. Our equipment makes the warehouse not great for visitors, but we'll happily answer any questions over email or phone.

Billing & bins

How do I update my payment method?
Residential members: log into your account and go to the Account & Billing tab. Commercial customers: email accounting@compostnashville.org and we'll handle it.
One bin isn't enough. What do I do?
Add another bin for $10/month each, or contact us to upgrade your plan.
How do I change my service address?
Log into your account, go to Service & Support, and select 'request a change of address.' We'll handle the rest.
How do I cancel?
Anytime, no fee. Log in and request cancellation. We'd love to know why if you have a moment to tell us.

Tips & tricks

Something's not on my fridge magnet. Is it compostable?
Ask us. Email or DM on Instagram. We'd rather answer a question than have something contaminate a batch.
How do I keep my bin from smelling?
Add a layer of paper waste (napkins, towels), keep the bin cool (inside during summer, outside during winter), and sprinkle a little baking soda on top now and then.
My bin is damaged or missing.
Email us; we'll bring a new one at your next pickup.
Where do I keep the bin between pickups?
Outside during winter (cold slows decomposition and odor), inside during summer (heat speeds it up).
Where do I set the bin on pickup day?
Same spot where we first delivered it, usually the end of the driveway or at the curb.
I don't need pickup this week.
Text SKIP to our number or click 'skip service' in your account.
My bin wasn't picked up today.
If it was out between 8am and 6pm and we missed it, file a 'missed pickup' form in the customer portal and we'll come back.
I forgot to put the bin out.
Use paper bags for overflow, freeze older material until next pickup, or just wait. Most bins can stretch to next week if they're not packed.

Holidays & weather

Do you change the schedule for holidays?
Only Thanksgiving and Christmas. We'll email and post on Instagram with the adjusted schedule.
What about severe weather?
Significant weather may delay pickups. We'll send out an email and Instagram post if so.
